Universal Healthcare: the facts
March 2008

This website has been set up for the explicit purpose of explaining the real facts relating to universal healthcare vs. the mess we have in the US today.

Prerequisites for understanding this website.

  1. You should have at least a middle school level math background. You need to understand percentages.
  2. You should have at least a middle school reading/comprehension ability.
  3. You should have had to work for a living, pay taxes and insurance premiums or…
  4. You should have had to take out student loans or…..
  5. You should have had to put an elderly person into a long term care home ….
  6. You should have had to go to a doctor, clinic, hospital, etc. for a serious medical problem…..and most important….
  7. You will need the ability to think logically - to reason!!!! (that’s the difficult part)

Why doesn’t anyone tell the truth about universal healthcare? Why does everyone lie, hide and misrepresent the facts? Answer: IT’S ALL ABOUT MONEY.

Who are the culprits in this hide and lie scheme?
Answer: The entire mainstream media, (television, radio, newspapers, internet, etc), the politicians (especially all of the current presidential candidates irrespective of the party affiliation).  Here is a list of just some that I have or have attempted to contact to ask them to present the honest facts: NBC, ABC, CNN, NY Times, St. Petersburg Times, AARP and many other less known organizations.  These listed have still other “sub-contacts” and none of them will present the truth. Rupert Murdoch’s propaganda mouthpieces are not even included in this critique for obvious reasons.
Again; why?  IT’S ALL ABOUT MONEY.

Now how does money play into this equation? One would think that honesty would only enhance one’s credibility and increase business. Not so. The more these organizations lie and hide facts the more money they make.
How is that possible? Newspapers, television, radio, internet all carry advertising from NCL’s (definition later). That is a revenue stream for them. And that revenue stream is only possible with a healthcare system based on profit. IT’S ALL ABOUT MONEY. If the USA had universal healthcare then most of this advertising would go away and the media would lose a major source of their income. Just note the number of ads promoting drugs, health insurance plans, hospitals, nursing homes, etc. You are subjected to it everywhere; in print, in the mail, on the internet and of course incessantly on television. The media will not kill the goose that is laying the golden eggs, at least not until the goose stops laying the golden eggs.
That time is HERE and NOW.

Who pays for all this advertising? You do! You, me, all of us.

What is an NCL?  An NCL is the Non Contributing Layer in healthcare delivery. It is that layer of the delivery system that does absolutely nothing, contributes absolutely nothing but hinders everything in the healthcare delivery process and enriches itself in that position. The NCL is what is making the US healthcare system 2 to 3 times more costly compared to universal healthcare in other countries. This is what the mainstream media and the politicians will not tell you as being the problem.

One needs only to do a quick count of the number of people who do not contribute one iota to society’s well being and are involved in the health care delivery system. Who are they? They are the insurance agents that sell and write policies; they are the billing staff and coders at each and every doctors office, laboratory, hospital, etc.; they are the thousands employed by insurance companies who review and process claims and payments; they are the thousands who review patient insurance applications for
conditions that disqualify them for being imperfect human beings or who may have inadvertently omitted some minor detail in their application; they are the coordinators at doctor’s offices who schedule work elsewhere to match particular insurance policy requirements; they are the thousands of lawyers who are involved with various cases of shortcomings in the healthcare system; the thousands of advertising firms and people involved in touting health care services and drugs; and the list goes on.
The single most costly (to the public) entity is the insurance company. They are the “house” as in a gambling casino. They set the odds and the policies and the gambler will positively lose playing against the house. The citizen has to pick and chose the policies, deductibles, exclusions, etc. and then pay a premium (bet) against the house that some unknown medical need will fall within the policy. But even with that the house can cancel or refuse to honor the contract. Even casinos are more honorable than insurance companies.

Having to deal with these NCL’s will surely destroy this entire country. The money siphoned up by these NCL’s will add so much cost to US products that competing in the world markets will place US products at such a disadvantage that it will surely result in the eventual collapse of the currency and this entire economy. The owners of these insurance companies are laughing all the way to the bank at the stupidity and ignorance of the public when the suckers make contributions (premiums) to the insurance company’s bottom line. And as explained before: NCL’s provide NO USEFUL service whatsoever!!

THIS IS THE QUESTION NO TV ANCHOR WILL EVER ASK ANY POLITICIAN OR ANY SO CALLED “EXPERT” ON THE SUBJECT. That question is repeated here so nobody misses the point.

Why is the US healthcare system 2 to 3 times more expensive than that of countries with universal healthcare? Why is it so high? Why? Why? Why?

Here are a couple of examples that are representative of all of the media. No attempt is made to single out any of them but let’s select CNN for starters.
Has anyone ever heard Sanjay Gupta ask the above question?  I have challenged him on that but he won’t even address it. All he presents are crying towel stories but he never discusses the real reasons for the system’s failure. Nice guy but his performance is cowardly to say the least.
Take ABC next. Charlie Gibson on the evening news broadcasts of Dec 10 and 11, 2007 had a panel of 3 so called experts discuss universal healthcare. Was anything constructive said? Absolutely nothing! George Stephanopoulos on many of his Sunday shows discussed healthcare with a number of guests. Did he ever ask the appropriate question? Not on any show that I saw.  Mar 3, 2008, Bill Weir had professor Uwe Reinhardt from Princeton on the segment. The professor quite appropriately called the president and congress “gutless wonders” but did Bill Weir ask any questions as to WHY?  The answer is obvious. All three, Gibson, Stephonopoulos, Weir appear to have more gray in their head than on top of it so why don’t they get to the bottom of it? Perhaps their management is telling them to provide a sufficient amount of entertainment without delving into the root cause of the issue.  If the root cause was exposed their profits would suffer.

What’s Sanjay Gupta’s excuse?

AARP: same story here. The AARP has published numerous articles on the subject but all of it has been pure entertainment just to satisfy the ignorant readership. By the way, the AARP not only receives advertising revenue from the NCL’s but actually promotes their “services and products” and maybe even gets a cut of the take. With universal healthcare the need for the AARP would be substantially reduced so will they promote it or tell the truth? Of course not.

The naysayer logic: “I don’t trust the government to provide healthcare”. OK so you don’t trust the government. What you are saying is that the US government is the only one that is not trustworthy in the developed world. The rest of the developed countries do trust their government to provide healthcare but no, not here in the USA. Are the VA, Medicare, and Social Security total failures? Because they are examples of government failures then the government can’t be trusted? To the last of my recollection they do function rather well though not perfectly.  So you trust the current corrupt system that you know is non-functional in favor of trusting the government that does a reasonably good job with the services it is now providing. Perhaps it is better you read prerequisite 7 again and exit this site.

The presidential candidates’ positions:
Every major presidential candidate, irrespective of the party affiliation, is in the pocket of the NCL’s – the insurance companies. None of them passed economics 101 – but then I believe neither did Bernanke. None of them understand the law of supply and demand even though most people take that for granted. All of the candidates support working with the casinos – oops – insurance companies, to increase their profits. Remember, the insurance companies serve no purpose other than collect a middle man commission. So Obama, Clinton and McCain want to shove more business their way. How? By having them process the 45 million additional people without insurance and/or those with inadequate insurance. That’s like asking the casino to change the odds in favor of the players. If you are dumb enough to believe that then exit this site.
Those 45 million uninsured are the group with more health problems than those that are covered; that’s why they are not covered. When these 45 million are thrust into the NCL domain the NCL’s profits will drop and they will raise their premiums. Aside from that the NCL’s will not be able to take care of the additional 45 million. There is currently a severe shortage of nurses and other medical personnel so who is going to take care of them. The pipeline is already full as is. But what an opportunity this is for the insurance companies. They will need to pay more for the medical staff and for the paper pushers. The staff shortage will be there even with universal care but at least the government can control the expenses to some degree and not be blackmailed by the insurance industry.
All of the candidates support universal coverage of some kind – that’s what they say – but the fact is they want to bankroll the insurance companies even more!!  If the citizen can’t afford the insurance premium then the government will subsidize all or part of it. That’s their approach in general terms. Where does that money come from? Your pocket! Your taxes will fatten the insurance companies until they look like a pot bellied pigs.

With the establishment of universal healthcare all of these people within the NCL’s would become unemployed since they do not contribute a thing to real healthcare. Dozens of insurance companies would go out of business; profits and investments would disappear but the public would benefit immensely. Great progress. We could use some of those people that were employed at the NCL’s and train them to be caregivers, nurses, technicians, etc. Those not qualified for such work like executives can be trained to pick tomatoes and thus solve our illegal immigration problem. I’m sure there is a sizable pool of candidates.

You hear the statement “the US has the best healthcare in the world”. Tell that to the 45 million that can’t access it!  You hear all that stuff about family values and “do onto others as you would have them do onto you”.  Perhaps it would be more realistic to preach “I, me and myself”. Let everyone worry about their own healthcare. Too bad if they can’t manage. In reality that’s what’s happening and the politicians are supporting that idea in spite of what they claim.

Get real. Get informed. Take a look at what the founders of this country had in mind. They did not exclude the 45 million unfortunates.         The next section will be a starter.
